Nopes… I am not writing a review post on the new IIIT magazine… But yes, this post certainly concerns them.

It so happens that Ping! team asks for a mailing list to be created. But those who have read Kulbir Saini’s post can understand that this was certainly not a constant time algorithm. So the team enquires about the delay ( or so I heard ). Here is the response they got:

You can get the mailing list created. The request might have been denied because of the name ‘ping’ which is very similar to a very common command ‘ping’. The sysadmins might have been worried about security implications of the name.

Seriously, come again?! Sending a mail to ping@students can compromise IIIT’s network ?? I knew I should have taken a course on Network Security Eff you, my ITWS TAs, why didn’t you teach us such important concepts?  I can only imagine the horror had the mailing list been created.

Unsaid

Just felt a pain in my heart. Reason? It all started from our mess. Yeah, lot of things these days start from there. But this one really had an impact. Went there for dinner with friends. Food quality was bad as usual. Rotis were hard and burnt. I din’t feel like eating them. But the mess guy without asking me whether I wanted them or not, put them in my plate. I din’t bother much. Took some rice and had my dinner with them and threw away those Rotis. Just then, I saw a man come inside the mess. He looked like one of the construction workers. He went to the counter, gave 2 or 3 coins to the manager and walked away with 4 rotis in hand with nothing else to eat. As he walked out of the mess door, he started eating those plain Rotis and while doing so, went out of sight.

I felt really ashamed ! What had I done just now? We have got our parents’ resources and we are wasting them like anything. 50 bucks is the normal expenditure per day for me, even though almost all our expenses have already been paid. Parties and things count seperate. For some, it would be even higher. I told this incident to Nrapesh. His reaction was that even if I hadn’t thrown those Rotis, how would I have been able to help him? Well, he seems right too. But I am just not able to accept it. Don’t know why ! But something about this incident is making me really upset. It feels like we have developed the habit of complaining. We haven’t got this, we haven’t got that. But we never think about what we have got. We just see what is missing. Shit man, where are we going?

P.S. Never felt like this in my whole life. Don’t know either how long the impact is going to be.

A Little Rubbish

Blah… Blah… Blah…Blah…

Wondering why I started my post this way???  Well, I have nothing to say. I am getting completely bored at home. Friends are not here yet. I think IIITians are the first to get out of their college. I have tried so many games since the start of vacations that I do not feel like touching my laptop right now. Worse, I haven’t read a single book for the book reading assignment and there is the least chance that I will find it on the net. Meanwhile, I have got myself an unlimited GPRS plan so that I can stay connected to my friends (U can find all of them either at Orkut or GTalk. Man my batch is crazy about Orkut! ). Well, that reminds me, since I am outta college and got an unlimited plan….that means no restriction on torrents and Rapidshare.  Yoohooo !

 

P.S.:-  Can somebody send me book reports for the assignment ? Plz…. !!!

Vacations at IIIT

When everyone is enjoying their vacations home, I am stuck with a damn summer project. U will definitely ask who told me to take up a project. Well, I did consult some seniors. Some nodded yes, others warned me. Going with the little statistics I learnt in Prof. Kaul’s class (only a little), I decided to go for the project and trust me, I am still repenting on my decision. Why? Because there’s nothing new in the project. I was expecting it as a chance to learn something. But my dreams were shattered. Anyways, it’s no use talking about it. So let’s shift topic.

Nowadays, every IIITian has a huge burden on his shoulders. Yes, you got it right. The Summer Book Reading Assignment. Wait a minute, u thinking it’s like one we used to get in schools where we had to submit a book report on a book of our choice. Well, only first part is right, u have to submit a report…. but on a book that could be your worst nightmare. Ever heard of ‘Bhartiya Chitta Manas Kala’. Don’t be scared, I am with you bro!!

Among all these things, one thing I forgot to mention about is my hobby – Computer Games. I am spending more time on them than my project work. I got my hands on some very nice games like TMNT, Battlefield 2142, GTA etc. I am taking home quite a good number of them. (70% of my hard drive is full of them. ) More reviews on them as soon as I finish them.
